City ai logoSouth Africa is the newest member of City.AI, a global non-profit organisation which brings together AI practitioners through events, reports IT Web.

The organisation’s goal is to map each city’s local AI ecosystem and engage with experts in order to enable “more people to learn and collaborate in the field of applied AI globally” it says on their website.

“We facilitate an exchange around real experiences putting AI into production, from data science over AI engineering and product development to business.”

The organisation has a network of over 40 cities. Cape Town is one of three African cities in the network together with Lagos, Nigeria and Accra, Ghana.

Cape Town will host its first City.AI event on 27 March with Lagos and Accra to follow soon.

The Cape Town City.AI panel will focus on the implications and impact of AI. Panelists include Lethabo Motsoaledi, co-founder and CEO at M&W Design-led Innovation Studio; Neil du Toit, data scientist at Q-Division; David Anderson, senior associate at Cullinan & Associates; and Wiebke Toussaint, data scientist at UCT and founder of Engineers Without Borders South Africa.
