South Africa’s government and the European Union will on Friday launch a programme to promote employment by supporting small, medium and micro-sized enterprises.

In a statement, the department of small business development said minister Lindiwe Zulu would launch the programme with European Union commissioner for international cooperation and development Neven Mimica.

“The programme will support SMMEs through business development services, assist them with access to markets, improve their access to finance and help ease the administrative and regulatory burden on small businesses,” it said.

Zulu said the project was aligned to the government’s national development plan which aims for an inclusive, equitable and fast growing economy, with the SMME sector contributing 90 percent of all new jobs by 2030. (via African News Agency)
